Kachinas are spirits in the mythology of the Hopi, Zuni, and more recently Navajo Indians of New Mexico and Arizona, in the southwest of the United States. Spirits of fire, rain, snake, or even prankster, mischievous, benevolent or malevolent spirits, a sort of inventory of the visible and invisible world. The painting of kachinas is important because the colors are associated with the six cardinal points: north is represented by yellow, west by blue-green, south by red, east by white, zenith by all the previous colors and nadir by black.
